Magocracy of Keld

The Magocracy of Keld sits in the north-western corner of the continent; it lies north of the Realm of Einiond and west of the Free Land of Mish. It is a land ruled by a council of powerful mages who each represent the different practices of magic. Though most citizens have a good enough life, the Magocracy demands absolute loyalty from its subjects. The Magocracy of Keld was involved in a bitter conflict roughly fourty eight years ago, when the mages started to magically alter the environment, killing the forest and turning most of it to a barren desert in order for them to construct their great metropolis and the surrounding lush farmland. Though much blood was shed, the Druidic Order agreed to a cease-fire after their capital of Limia was razed. As per the agreement, the druids are allowed to live in and do business in what remains of their forest, but must adhere to the laws of the Magocracy and use their druidic magic and teachings to assist the region in growing crops and maintaining the population. Under this agreement however, the mages may not encroach any more on the forest.

Cities, Towns, and Other Areas of Interest[]

  • Amek: Amek houses a substantial population of elves, though humans and Troll-Kin are also common sights here. Amekians are renowned for their alchemists. It is said that any substance whether it be potion, poison, or drug can be found in Amek. Unlike most cities, Amek allows the purchase and crafting of poison and drugs, though such purchases are documented to prevent unlawful use.
  • Delvinton: The trading community of Delvinton sits in the northeast region of the area, and is mostly a large, sprawling trader's town filled with tents, stands, and caravans. The trade city has risen around a single tavern, the Rocky Runestone run by a dwarf named Brazous Flaskbow.
  • Feruset: The small sea-side community of Feruset deals mostly in shipping goods to and from cities to the south. The population is primarily human, though some aquatic races such as Locathah, aquatic elves, and water orcs have made Feruset and the surrounding waters their home. It is a tradition to have these aquatic races help construct buildings that have floors under the water. Many travelers are awed by the Seal's Sun, an inn constructed almost completely under water.
  • Jiuri: Jiuri is a common stop for ships from Rosendor or Mulbaraz to restock on supplies. Jiuri is known for the Temple of Fharlanghn Way, making it an important destination to those who worship the travel god.
  • Keld: Keld is the eponymous capital of the region, a large orderly metropolis divided into four districts with large waterways between them. The Magocracy is housed in a large tower located in the middle, with important legal buildings surrounding them. Many arcane schools exist here to help those with arcane gifts to hone their talents. The patron diety of Keld is Boccob, and the Temple of the Eternal Library is housed here, where many of faith come to pray and those seeking knowledge come to study. Most magic items found in traders hands, if not plundered from ancient places of power, were crafted in Keld.
  • Navia: Navia houses many elves who watch over the forests surrounding Keld. Many druids that have survived the struggles of years past make their homes here if not in the forest proper.
  • Port Hikar: The port town of Hikar receives goods from Rosendor and delivers them to the capital. Most of its citizens work either as shiphands or farmers. Hikar has damp grounds surrounding it that allow the locals to grow cranberries along with other crops.
  • Ruins of Limia: This was once the capital city of the Druidic Order. It now lies empty, frozen in time.
  • Tower of Sight: The tower was constructed along the road, where diviners can keep track on those entering and exiting the city. A few small buildings can be found surrounding the tower offering travelers a safe place to stay.
  • Winding Way: This river originates in the Limian peaks and drains into the Northern Sea.
  • Wyan: The city of Wyan produces many of the textiles used by the continent. It's weavers and stitchers are well-known around the world. It is said that most fashions start in Wyan and make their way around the continent. Its population is primarily human and halfling.
